The Tiwi Islands offer a unique and immersive cultural experience, with the tour structure varying depending on the time of year. From July to September, the Tiwi Aboriginal Experience provides a comprehensive cultural journey. This includes return ferry transfers from Darwin to Bathurst Island, a traditional Welcome to Country ceremony, a fascinating walking tour with a local Tiwi guide, and the opportunity to enjoy morning tea and lunch amidst the island's beauty. You'll also explore the historic old Catholic Church and participate in a hands-on cultural art session, creating your own screen-printing artwork to take home as a cherished memento.
From October to March, the experience transforms into Tiwi By Design, offering a highly personalised immersion into the vibrant Tiwi art scene. Upon arrival at Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island, your Tiwi guide will lead you to the renowned Tiwi Design Art Centre. Here, local artists and dancers will welcome you with a traditional smoking ceremony and captivating totem dances. Enjoy a typical Tiwi morning tea of damper and a cuppa while connecting with community members, followed by a walking tour of painted buildings and the historic mission precinct, including the beautiful Catholic church featured in 'Top End Wedding'. Learn about the Tiwi Creation Story through a captivating mural and browse authentic Tiwi carvings, paintings, and fabric at island prices. After a relaxing lunch, participate in an exclusive "behind-the-scenes" screen printing workshop, where you can choose a contemporary or traditional Tiwi design to print onto a take-home item – a truly special souvenir of your cultural visit.

Location & how to get there
The Garden inn Hilton Hotel Darwin is located next to the Darwin Entertainment Centre and overlooks the palm-lined esplanade, with stunning ocean views also available from select rooms. All rooms have been newly refurbished, and the hotel also boasts the largest outdoor swimming pool in Darwin, as well as free WiFi, a fitness room and beauty salon. While being located on the esplanade, the DoubleTree is also within walking distance of many Darwin hotspots, eateries, and shopping areas. A later check out time of 1pm will also mean a relaxing end to your stay in Darwin.
