Itinerary

Accommodation:

Located on Woods Street in Darwin’s CBD, Oaks Elan is just minutes from the Darwin Waterfront Precinct and the city’s dining, entertainment and shopping hub, including Smith Street Mall. Oaks Elan Darwin stands amongst the finest Darwin hotels offering uninterrupted views over the tropical city, Darwin Harbour and Frances Bay and is the perfect accommodation for families during their stay.

Where to eat:

You’ll find yourself dining at the iconic Hotel Darwin which dates back to 1940 and has been a long-running watering-hole for the city’s locals. This is the place to try a variety of local produce including fresh barramundi, thick rump steak and even kangaroo pie while the kids can enjoy a choice of meals including chicken nuggets and chips and cheese and tomato pizza.

Another historic Darwin food lover's-destination is the Stokes Hill Wharf which is conveniently located right next to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Darwin Tourist Facility & Bombing of Darwin Harbour Attraction. Here you and your family can have fresh fish and chips which can be enjoyed while taking in the panoramic ocean views and the famed Darwin sunsets.

What to do:

Spend an afternoon at the Darwin Waterfront relaxing on the banana lounges or on shady patches of lawn in the palm-lined Recreation Lagoon while the kids enjoy tube-riding, boogie-boarding and bucket-loads of fun in the Wave Lagoon.

You and the family will experience some of Darwin’s fantastic wildlife at the exciting Crocosaurus Cove, including a photo with a baby crocodile. Rated one of the best tourist experiences in Darwin, this tourist hot-spot allows you to get up close and personal with a multitude of reptiles, turtles and other animals, as well as providing fun activities such as fishing for crocs and informative shows throughout the day.  If you’re feeling brave, you can also have a go at the once-in-a-lifetime crocodile experience known as the Cage of Death (at additional cost).

At Aquascene Fish Feeding Sanctuary, you and the family will have the amazing opportunity to hand-feed fish in the tranquil tropical waters of Darwin’s Doctors Gully. Since the 1950’s this unique natural phenomena has been occurring with hundreds of wild fish shedding their normal shyness to be willingly hand-fed at high tide to the delight of tourists and locals alike.

Sightseeing in the NT’s capital city is easy with the 24 hour Hop on Hop off Bus which will allow you to customise your Darwin experience while also learning interesting facts via the entertaining audio commentary provided on the bus. The 12 drop-off spots include the beautiful George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens and the informative Darwin Military Museum.
