The hotel is adjoined with Lasseter’s Casino which Priscilla fans will know as the central Australian destination for the film’s leading lads/ladies bus trip. You’ll find the luxurious large outdoor swimming pool the ultimate Alice Springs spot to soak up sunny afternoon rays with plenty of room for everyone to enjoy themselves. There is also an on-site fitness centre and lavish spa to relax in after your workout (if you can pull yourself away from exploring the spectacular Red Centre!).

While on your 2 Day Uluru and Kings Canyon Tour you’ll spend a relaxing night in an ensuite room at the Wayside Inn in Curtin Springs. This quaint inn is a home away from home and provides a comfortable break from your Red Centre adventuring. The historic Bough Shed on the property offers the perfect spot for a cold beer or refreshing cup of tea as well as the lovely gardens providing a great spot to unwind outside.

Where to eat:

The Lasseters complex has plenty of places to dine – from an iconic destination for a great grill meal at The Juicy Rump to Tempo, a new and exclusive wine and cocktail bar that also provides gourmet tapas and desserts. Casbah café and bar, located in the centre of the casino offers a full bar, coffee, meals and light snacks alongside comfortable seating while Splash Poolside Café provides healthy protein smoothies as well as coffee, cocktails and beer for a poolside treat.

Tali, the Crowne jewel, is Lasseters’ premium restaurant boasting premium fine dining with an à la carte menu that features modern Australian and French flavours such as Sliced Spicy Pork Belly, Coffin Bay Oysters, Wagyu Scotch Fillet and Raspberrry and Custard Mille Feulle. The premier restaurant also features an extensive wine menu and theatrical open plan kitchen.

The Goat & Bucket House of Hops provides a new dining experience in Alice Springs with a dark and moody interior that pairs well with a menu matched with craft beers from all around the world. Each dish is specifically crafted to accompany one of over 13 specialty beers including gourmet sausage, chicken wings, sliders and Goat & Guinness pie.

On your tours you will be provided with a freshly packed lunch, fruit and snacks throughout the day to keep you satisfied on your adventures around the Red Centre. While on your 2 day Uluru and Kings Canyon Tour you’ll also receive a BBQ dinner at sunset with sparkling wine and a cooked breakfast the next day.

What to do:

Find yourself mesmerised by the spectacular outback scenery as you travel along the magnificent West MacDonnell Ranges, stopping at historic sites and prime photo opportunities along the way. Enjoy beautiful walks at Simpsons Gap, Standley Chasm (for morning tea), the Ochre Pits, and the popular Ormiston Gorge for lunch. Next, you’ll find yourself at the wondrous Glen Helen Gorge, then, as you travel back to Alice Springs there will be time for an afternoon stop at Ellery Creek Big Hole. This waterhole is one of Central Australia’s most pristine, so don’t forget your swimmers when the weather’s warm for a refreshing afternoon dip!

As you continue your journey back to your hotel, the West MacDonnell Ranges will put on a show. As the sun sets the Ranges come alive with a spectacular array of sunburnt oranges and brilliant reds to end your day of adventure and exploration.

You’ll start your 2 Day Uluru and Kings Canyon Tour by journeying through the iconic Australian outback to the World Heritage listed Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park where the first stop will be at Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Here you’ll walk into the engulfing Walpa Gorge before you experience the beauty of the famed natural domes. Next, it’s on to the Aboriginal Cultural Centre where you’ll learn about the local Pitjantjatjara people followed by a trip to the famed Uluru where you’ll be taken on a guided Mala Walk around the north-west side of the gigantic rock. You’ll experience fine examples of Anangu rock art while hearing fascinating dreamtime stories before being shown the magical Mutitjulu Waterhole. You’ll end the day with a relaxing sunset BBQ and sparkling wine while taking in the stunning sunset over Uluru.

Day 2 will begin with an early trip to Kings Creek Station in Kings Canyon while you also keep an eye out for waking wildlife including dromedary camels, kangaroos, brumbies and dingoes. Kings Creek Station is where your delicious cooked breakfast will be enjoyed followed by the impressive Rim Walk which sees you wander the vast rim of the canyon while you marvel at the impressive sandstone walls, grottos, chasms and cliffs. Visit the Garden of Eden deep down between the sandstone cliffs where a natural spring waterhole provides a mid-outback oasis. A creek bed walk will provide a leisurely way to take in the sights if the Rim Walk isn’t to your liking, ending in rewarding views of the impressive canyon rim. It’s then off to Kings Canyon Resort for a relaxing afternoon where you can take a refreshing dip in the resort’s pool or take an optional scenic helicopter flight (creek bed walkers only). Your journey back to your accommodation in Alice Springs will give you a glimpse into the vast, unique outback of the Red Centre as you relax after an exciting tour.

Location & how to get there

Alice Springs Airport (alicespringsairport.com.au) is served by Virgin AustraliaQantas and Air North with capital cities served mostly by daily flights. There are also connections to and from Ayres Rock airport as well as several regional airports, mostly within the NT.

The airport is a 15 minute drive to the centre of town. An airport shuttle meets all flights and serves all central hotels. Car hire is available direct from the airport and there are plentiful taxis available at the airport rank. Private transfers, while available are limited, especially at peak times. Alice Springs can also be reached by The Ghan, from either Darwin or Adelaide. The train station is a short walk from the town centre and a shuttle service, as well as taxis serve all arrivals/departures.

Driving to Alice Springs is scenic from whichever direction you arrive, with the trip from Darwin or Adelaide being one of the most iconic road trips in Australia. Various turn offs along the Stuart Highway lead to points along the East Coast on (mostly) sealed roads. For the adventurous and those that seek true solitude the 1126km unsealed Great Central Road, which links Yalara to Laverton in Central Australia will give you an outback experience like no other.
