Itinerary

Accommodation:

You’ll begin your Luxury Top End escape based at the Hilton Darwin located in the centre of the city’s CBD while still overlooking the harbour. As you’ll be staying in the Executive room, aside from the expected amenities (daily buffet breakfast, free WiFi and valet parking) you’ll also have access to the Executive Lounge and benefits including daily refreshments, evening drinks and canapes. A later check out time of 1pm will also mean a relaxing end to your stay in Darwin.

Following your time at the Hilton Darwin is a three-night luxurious stay at the stunning Cicada Lodge where, on arrival, you’ll be warmly welcomed with a welcome drink, sunset drink and canapes. The Lodge is located inside the wondrous Nitmiluk National Park, home to the famous Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge and is a sanctuary within which you can truly embrace Aboriginal culture and ancient landscapes. The Gorge itself is made up of a system of 13 immense gorges that have been carved out over the years by the Katherine River through the region’s ancient stone country, and you’ll enjoy it while based in a sanctuary of luxurious comfort. All the Lodge’s 18 rooms feature full length louvered doors that lead out to private balconies allowing the opportunity to open your room to the sounds and sights of the surrounding native bush. The Lodge also features a restaurant, room service, a concierge and outdoor pool for you to enjoy on a warm afternoon.

Where to eat:

You’ll receive a 2-course dinner at the Hilton’s own Mitchell’s Restaurant & Bar as well as 15% off food and beverages (outside of this meal). Mitchell’s menu is filled with innovative dishes that utilise the freshest Australian seafood to delight the palette and was a Best Hotel Finalist in the Australian Hotels Association (NT) Harbottle Gold Plate Awards.

At Cicada Lodge, you’ll find yourself enjoying a nightly 3 Course Chefs Table dinner with a contemporary menu boasting dishes that combine traditional elements with unique flavours from the region. Here, guests are encouraged to taste, experience and enjoy native Australian foods that have been incorporated into a fresh, contemporary menu.

What to do:

Sit back and relax as you enjoy the serenity of drifting through two magnificent gorges on the Nit Nit Dreaming Two Gorge Cruise. On the two-hour cruise you will discover the cultural significance of the first 2 gorges of the Jawoyn people while taking in the spectacular natural landscape and possibly spotting local wildlife.

While taking a break from relaxing in your luxurious surroundings, the Nitmiluk Gorge Helicopter Flight* will give you a stunning overhead view of the area as your aerial journey takes you over eight breathtaking gorges. You’ll get a perspective of the Nitmiluk Gorge system not otherwise possible and there is also the possibility to upgrade your trip (cost is not included in package) so you can land on the rock escarpments as a remote spot for a unique photo opportunity.

Location & how to get there

Darwin International Airport (darwinairport.com.au) is serviced by many Domestic and Regional airline carriers including QantasVirgin AustraliaJetstar and Air North.  Flights mainly operate out of Australia’s capital cities and generally take between 3 – 4 hours.

The airport is about a 15-minute drive from the centre of town. The Darwin Airport Shuttle meets all domestic and international flights and departs from the front of the terminal. Car hire is available from the counters close to the baggage carousels. There are also plenty of taxis available at the airport cab rank and private transfers can be pre-booked.

Darwin can also be reached by The Ghan, from Adelaide or Alice Springs, with trains arriving weekly on Tuesdays. While the rail station is situated a short drive from the city centre, free transfers are offered to all passengers.

For those driving there are a number of entry ways to access Darwin. Most roads are sealed however some are for the more adventurous 4 wheel drivers. If you are coming from Queensland the best route to take is the Overlander’s Way / Barkly Highway from Mt Isa. If you are leaving from Cairns you can take the Savannah Way which is a rugged, unsealed road which crosses the top of Australia from Cairns to Broome. You can also use the Savannah Way as an access from Western Australia. Other roads leading from WA to Darwin include the Tanami Road that runs across the Tanami Desert and to the north the Butine Highway. The drive from South Australia is especially scenic as you follow the Explorer’s Way through Coober Pedy and past the major centres of Alice Springs, Tennant Creek and Katherine before arriving in Darwin.
